JOBSWORTH
Heard anyone say "It's more than my job's worth" lately?
Pat had, and just before she died she asked for this song
to be put on Youtube.... it's a simple song from our first CD,
'Come On Home', with the "apple cart gang" from Penrhys!

WHO'S YOUR PATRON?
When Welsh artists start, they find their patron.
Thousands of years ago it would have been a rich
lord, and now, artists find themselves having to
suck up to local authority or quango careerists,
or sell their souls even faster, by corrupting
their art just to be rewarded commercially.
Now there's a way for communities to help local
artists to fulfil their dreams in truth...
A Rhondda artist seeking your backing is Rhodri,
who loves making films. Check him out here:

Vic Doyle says "...support this budding and
enterprising young man... he makes films, so
big up for Rhodri and his forthcoming movies.."

Meic Updates
Earlier this month, Gavin Thomas, Helpline
Coordinator, represented Meic at the National
Eisteddod in Wrexham. The Maes was very busy
despite the gloomy weather and Gavin braved the
rain to meet with people from all over Wales and
some as far afield as Australia. Those that knew
of Meic were very enthusiastic and complimentary
and those that didnt
do now!
As the universities prepare for their intake of
new students, Meic staff will be out and about
attending as many Freshers Fairs as they can
during September and October.
Meic is receiving an increasing number of calls
around mental health.
As such, all staff have completed training in
Youth Mental Health First Aid and some have
taken it to the next level to complete Applied
Suicide Intervention Skills Training to further
meet the needs of those who contact the service.
ProMail
Almost 4,000 children and young people throughout
Wales have contacted the 'meic' helpline since
it was launched in May 2010. Due to this success
we are now extending the opening hours to
24 hours a day, 7 days a week, as of now.
The service will continue to provide a single
point of contact via telephone, text or instant
messaging for comprehensive information and will
signpost to other services and provide access to
independent professional advocates as & when required..

New UNCRC resources available for download
Dynamix, ProMo-Cymru and Dr Sue Lyle have worked
in partnership to compile and develop a range
of over 60 resources for the Welsh Government
to raise awareness of the United Nations
Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC)
for children and young people in Wales.
Working with existing materials and developing
new ones, the project has involved a variety of
professionals and young people to put together
these exciting new resources which 0 25 year-
olds will find easy to use and relate to.
These resources can be used in both educational
and non-educational settings and are free to
downloaded from the UNCRC Let's Get It Right website.
The website includes resources such as
activities, games, downloads, discussion tools
and lesson plans for exploring children's rights
with clear links to the curriculum and the PSE
framework where relevant.
Highlights of the resources available include:
'Right Words, Wrong Order' Video
An interesting short film that shows how the
power of words can make a big difference when
changing attitudes towards the UNCRC.
Suitable for children and young adults.
'For Every Child, A Better World' by Kermit the Frog
A beautifully illustrated storybook with Kermit
explaining childrens rights in an easy to
understand manner. Suitable for children.
Colouring and Doodle Books
These colouring and doodling books encourage
children to express themselves and promotes
a better understanding of childrens rights
in a fun and engaging way. Suitable for
children and younger teens.
Interactive Web Game
This interactive web game which allows the user
to create their own drawings will appeal to
teenagers and young adults. Finished drawings
can be saved and emailed to friends.
Lesson Plans and Classroom Activities
These educational materials were developed for
teachers so they can introduce the UNCRC in
class through a variety of interesting
activities. Examples include a guide on how to
make an animation video and a specially produced
photo pack to encourage discussion on childrens
rights. Suitable for primary & secondary school teachers.
Poster Packs
A series of posters highlighting childrens
rights which can be easily printed and
displayed in educational and non-educational
settings. Suitable for teachers & youth work pros.
The UNCRC was given prominence in Wales when it
was adopted by the Welsh Government in 2004 for
all its policy-making. These resources and
materials were collated and developed to convey
this important message to a variety of ages.
During this projects development, the Rights of
Children and Young Persons (Wales) Measure was
approved by Her Majesty in Council and became
a part of Welsh law.
In March 2011, Wales became the first country
in the UK to make the UNCRC a measure for
domestic law making.
The Measure contains a number of provisions
that will strengthen and build on the existing
rights-based approach of the Welsh Assembly
Government towards policy for children and
young people aged 0-25, and also strengthen
children & young peoples position in Welsh society.
All departments of the Welsh Government will now
make their policies upholding young people
rights in the various services and activities
provided for them and for the public in general.

On Tuesday 26th July, ProMo launched their new
CLIC ACNs at the YMCA's graduation ceremony
in the Millennium Stadium.
This accredited training on how to use CLIC has
also been piloted with the Vale of Glamorgan
and Rhondda Cynon Taf Youth Services this summer.
At the end of the summer we will also be
running a pilot with CWYVS members.
The ACNs in creative writing, creative writing
with poetry, photo diaries and video stories
are also being piloted across Wales this summer.
These training packages will then be rolled out

Social Media Training
Are you keen to find out how social networking
sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Bebo, MySpace
can promote & support your organisation's projects?
ProMo-Cymru has developed a social media training
programme to support organisations in understanding

CLIC Training & Accreditation Packages
CLIC has developed a range of CLIC training
and accreditation packages for professionals
and young people.
Through our partnership with YMCA Community
College, we have developed a bespoke training
package in how to use the CLIC website. These
are available in Agored Unit levels of 1,2 & 3.
This training is being piloted this summer and
then rolled out across voluntary and maintained
sectors this autumn.
We have also developed accredited training for
young people to help them express their views
and opinions on CLIC and their local websites.
These are units in creative writing, creative
writing & poetry, picture diaries and video
stories. These will be available on the ProMo-
Cymru website under the resources section. We
can support the moderation of these modules to
ensure your young people gain the accreditation
this training offers.
If you wish to learn more about these training
and accreditation packages, please contact Rachel
Burton, Training and Accreditation Officer, at
rachel@cliconline.co.uk

CLIC PSE Lesson Plans
The CLIC PSE lessons plans are now available on
the ProMo-Cymru website under the resources section.
There are in total ten lesson plans: five for Key
Stage 3 and five for Key Stage 4. These detailed
lessons plans comply with the All Wales PSE
Framework and use the CLIC website as a tool to
explore topics within the PSE curriculum.

Substance Misuse Project
The name for the new substance misuse website
for young people in Cardiff has been decided.
The name suggested by a young person from
Cantonian High School is Red Button (Eng)
/ Botwm Coch (Welsh).
Work has already started on the Red Button site
to get it ready for the launch in October.
A steering group of young people has been set
up to lead the process.
If any young people you know are interested in
joining this group, contact Arielle Tye at
arielle@thesprout.co.uk
************************************************
It Only Takes One Project
The It Only Takes One media campaign for
Safer Capital is now in full swing.
Posters highlighting the risks of alcohol-related
violent crime will be placed all over Cardiff
city centre for two months from mid July.
Look out for the big red posters titled
'One too many?' in key places throughout Cardiff.

CLIC county development updates
There are currently ten live CLIC sites
(including the national site)
with six more under development.
With the support of the CLIC Counties and Design
Team, these local sites are gaining more
readership and young peoples involvement.
Here are some developmental updates of two of
the
local sites: Defaid in Anglesey and theSprout in Cardiff.
Defaid
The Editorial Group is focused on increasing usage and contributions to the site and looking into ways of doing this. They are keen to form sub-editorial groups represented by young people from secondary schools and Coleg Menai so that they can be responsible for submitting news from their schools and areas.
The editor of Defaid has met with Ysgol Uwchradd Bodedern to discuss how this can be achieved and ten students from the school have shown a big interest in being a part of the group. These groups will start in September, at the beginning of the new school term.
The Editorial Group is also keen to have a presence at the Anglesey Agricultural Show and will be promoting Defaid at the event.
Two members of the Editorial Group joined the
CLIC team at the National Eisteddfod to hand out
freebies, raise awareness of CLIC and Defaid and
blog about their experience.
TheSprout
The first theSprout Saturday training session held on 2 July was a success. Local author Jaque Thay ran a free session on Creative Writing for 11-25 year-olds at Cardiff Central Library.
It was the first of theSprout Saturday sessions, which are a series of workshops that aims to develop skills in creative writing, photography, film and improvisational theatre.
All of the work created will be published on theSprout website and young people will also have the opportunity to gain OCN accreditations.
For more information, contact Arielle Tye,
theSprout Editor, at

Womex 13 Stakeholder Meetings
Cardiff is pleased to have been selected as
the city to host WOMEX, the leading world music
expo, in 2013. The announcement comes at the
end of a year-long campaign by the Cerdd Cymru:
Music Wales partners to bring the industry
showcase and conference to Wales. The event
will see around 60 showcases featuring some 300
musicians over four days, a trade fair with
around 2500 music industry professionals from
over 90 countries, 500 press and media reps,
film screenings, seminars and panels, an award
ceremony and opening concert.
This is the core of WOMEX, but its up to all
of us to build on this foundation to create
something that reaches beyond this, across the
rest of Cardiff, across the music sector, felt
through Wales. We want WOMEX to drive and
accelerate the music sector, culture sector
and links with business.

______________________________________________
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
I'm writing to let you know about the development
of an exciting new Foundation Degree that will be
starting at the University of Glamorgan ATRiuM
campus, in September 2011.
The Foundation Degree in Music Industry Entrepreneurship
is a qualification which is financed via support
from the European Social Fund, meaning that all
places are fully financed, providing entrants
live and/or work in a Convergence Area within
Wales, and comply with other eligibility criteria
as published on our Music Academy Website.
The Foundation Degree is the first of its kind in
the UK, and enables attendees to gain up to half
of the qualification based on their previous
experiences. It also enables those undertaking
the course to gain academic credits from
achievements in the workplace.
The award is delivered through a combination of
face-to-face teaching and distance learning, and
takes around eighteen months to complete. Upon
successful completion of the Foundation Degree
(which is equivalent to the first two years of a
Degree), participants will also have the option
of progressing onto the final year of an Honours
Degree, should they wish.
Aimed at both self-employed and micro business
employees, this is an excellent opportunity for
those wishing to gain academic credit for their
past and current professional experience, in
addition to learning new ways to exploit their
existing knowledge. There are currently places
available for practitioners in South Wales
starting in September 2011, 2012 and 2013,
with places in the West and North of Wales
available for a September 2012 start.
I would appreciate it if you would forward this
message to anyone you think would benefit from
this qualification. In the meantime, if you have
any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Kind Regards,
