NEWS FROM THEATRE IN WALES

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you know of any news or reviews
that we have missed, please send them in to us.
Feel free to forward this email to anyone
you know who is interested in any aspect of
the performing arts in Wales.

Arts Council - CUTS CUTS CUTS ... AND MORE CUTS!!!

32 organisations (who are currently receiving
annual revenue funding) will, from April 2011,
see this arrangement end. They will be able to
receive support from a "transition programme".

The Arts Council says it has to reduce or
discontinue funding to some, so that it
can properly support those who remain.

Perhaps surprising, perhaps not, the announcement
by ACW of its strategic funding review, has
yielded very little response and comment so far.
Are people generally in favour of the new
proposed funding regime? Are you keeping your
powder dry until we get the outcome of the
actual funding level from WAG at the end of
the year? What are your thoughts and opinions?

CLIC Updates

The following county areas have now
come onboard the CLIC project and are
working with us to develop their local CLIC sites:

Anglesey
Anglesey is the latest county to come onboard
CLIC in developing their own local website.
After a meeting with Ian Roberts, Anglesey
Children and Young People Partnership Manager,
we are now beginning the process of getting
a website together and are having meetings
to discuss the next steps.

Vale of Glamorgan
The Vale’s CLIC website is now up and running.
After consulting with young people, the name
Swoosh Me has been decided and the website is
now live at

http://www.swoosh.me.uk/

An editor is in place to support the editorial
group, which is in the process of being set up.

Flintshire
CLIC has met with the Information and Involvement
Sub-group in Flintshire and came up with two new
designs for the existing website, Young Flintshire.
The feedback obtained was very positive and
the new website should be completed by Spring.

Rhondda Cynon Taf
After consulting 900 young people to come up with
a name for Rhondda Cynon Taf’s CLIC website,
WICID (pronounced Wicked) has been decided
and the website is now live at

http://www.wicid.tv/

The project will be overseen by
Rhondda Cynon Taf’s CYPP Co-ordinator.

Newport
There is an existing local website for young
people, Young Newport, and work is under way
for it to be linked to the CLIC National site.
An editor will be put in place to support the
newly established editorial group with eight members.

advocacy and information for young people and
children aged 0 – 25.

In addition to providing a telephone service,
children and young people can also get in touch
with the advisors through text messaging and
internet chat, 7 days a week.

The service would also be able to signpost
children and young people to other services, or
contact another service on behalf of a child or
young person (with their consent) if a vulnerable
child/young person might not feel able/or want
to make a second call.

The pilot will run from March to September 2010.

Win £40 Music Vouchers

The above exciting new project in development
will benefit all children, young people
and their families across Wales.

The free and confidential helpline service,
which anyone can use, is now being piloted.

Get advice and information on anything and
everything, from where to go for help on issues
from finding a work placement to dealing with bullying.

There will also be signposting, advocacy and
direct advice on all issues available.

There are a number of ways to access the line,
which will be staffed by experienced advisors,
and all of which won't cost you a penny:

Calling from your mobile phone or landline
Emailing
Texting
Instant messaging
Calling from a phonebox

However, we are keen to get your opinions
on what will be your service. There is a
short questionnaire online which, once
you've completed it, will see you entered
into a prize draw to win £40 worth of music
vouchers for either a high street or online store.

You can find the questionnaire at the page
entitled We Need Your Feedback...

Save The Globe

The Globe, Cardiff, which has featured a list of
international artists including La Roux, Jamie
T, Johnny Winter, Arlo Guthrie, and Wishbone
Ash, has become one of the premier live music
venues in south Wales since its launch just
over a year ago, but has recently come under the
spotlight itself as a result of noise complaints
from two nearby residents which has resulted in
Cardiff Council revoking the 350-capacity music venue’s licence.

Club founder Alan Jones said, “We invested a
considerable amount of money in creating a truly
unique music venue for Cardiff, and made efforts
to incorporate what we thought would be adequate
soundproofing measures. Unfortunately, the few
complaints recently received by Cardiff Council
could see the venue shut down for good, which
would be a blow for live music in Cardiff and
of course for the venue’s staff who would be
out of a job if we have to close.”

Alan has appealed the Council’s decision and the
forecasted hearing is scheduled for the end of
February. In the meantime, he is hoping to raise
the estimated £25,000 required to undertake
additional soundproofing to the roof by organising
a special fundraising gig week and is appealing
to live music enthusiasts in south Wales and
beyond for support of the event.

Details of the series of special events are below...
